UK manifesto: European and Foreign Policy: Phasing out VAT

The regulations regarding VAT are one example of the sovereignty of the member nations of the EU being eroded. Every nation in the EU should have the right to eliminate this burdensome tax by making its own administration more efficient. As pointed out in the section on Taxation (see Economy), VAT creates an administrative burden for both government and business. It is a complex tax to administer, and places a restriction on the ability of everyone to enjoy their own earnings, particularly the lower income brackets of society.

The Natural Law Party will create the ground for phasing out VAT by making administration more efficient and by making substantial savings in a number of areas of governmental expenditure through the introduction of more effective programmes. Just this one measure of phasing out VAT will add a substantial stimulus to the economy.

Since the Natural Law Parties throughout Europe are united on this issue, the Natural Law Party can make a commitment to reverse the errosion of national freedom created by European legislation on VAT.
