Security and invincible defence will never be established by amassing arms, but only by creating lasting and stable peace in the world.

The only true security for Europe, both internal and external, lies in securing the real friendship of all other nations, not in posing a bigger threat with a large and well-armed military.

The Natural Law Party therefore supports the idea of a common defence policy for the European Union, but not the maintenance of a common military force. On the basis of its prevention-oriented approach to defence, the Natural Law Party proposes that the EU should maintain a coherence-creating group of 7000 experts in Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying in Europe, and a similar group on each continent. The extensive scientific research on these programme shows that this will raise integrity, stability and harmony in world consciousness to such a degree that regional or international conflicts will simply not arise.

In this situation, there will be no need for a European military task force for use in the context of conflicts within the EU, between the EU and other regions, or in any part of the world. The coherence-creating groups maintained by the EU on all continents will be a true ‘peace-keeping’ force, securing the immunity of Europe and all parts of the world from hostility and conflict, and maintaining harmony among all nations.

This is the only intelligent basis for a sound common defence policy. The Natural Law Party’s unique programme to create and maintain world peace renders obsolete the present EU debate on the framework for military alliance, including the involvement of Nato, the WEU, or the so-called "partnership for peace".

The war in the Balkans emphasises the need for a fundamentally new and effective approach to solve international crises. The United Nations is clearly ineffective in its role as international peace-keeper, and the large military powers and military alliances such as Nato are taking upon themselves a unilateral mandate to use military action. This approach displays a mode of foreign policy that says: "If you do not conform to my idea of internal and foreign policy, I will bomb you."

Military action not only reveals a distinct lack of intelligence, it poses an enormous danger to the world; violence always begets more violence.

The military powers involved in the Nato attacks on Yugoslavia can expect not only that more violence will erupt in the Balkans, but also that the balance of power in the world will become dangerously destabilised. There is an eternal principle "As you sow, so shall you reap." Therefore, an upsurge of acts of violence and negativity must also be anticipated in the Nato nations themselves.

There is no doubt that oppression and cruelty has been prevalent in Yugoslavia; however, further acts of violence will only serve to worsen the situation and pose the greatest threat to peace and international security seen for many decades.

The scientifically validated programme to create peace based on establishing a coherence-creating group of experts in Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying is no longer a luxury, or something that can be evaluated at leisure. How long can anyone stand idly by, knowing that an effective and reliable solution is available when there is the danger that the fire of war will burn more savagely and spread further in Europe and in other parts of the world? The Natural Law Party will – whether it is elected into office or not – place as an urgent priority the creation of permanent groups of coherence-creating experts in Yogic Flying. The immediate need is for a group of 2000 experts, to neutralise the stress in the Balkans region; the next priority is to establish a permanent group of 7000 to guarantee the future peace of the world.
