EUROPEAN MANIFESTO
1999
DEMOCRACY IN THE EU Natural Law Party calls for an end to undemocratic election procedures The Natural Law Party believes that election procedures should be as open and democratic as possible in order to bring in fresh, new ideas to create a better government. At present, in some EU countries there are very restrictive electoral requirements which in effect prevent new parties from entering the elections (for example, the requirement for very large numbers of signatures in Italy, Germany and Denmark). These restrictions serve the interests of the old parties, but keep valuable new ideas out of the election debate. The EU Natural Law Parties will therefore work in a concerted way to bring an end to restrictive and undemocratic election procedures, both for national and European elections in EU member states. Some basic requirements are obviously necessary, but for true democracy these should be minimal in every country.
This will truly encourage the introduction of new knowledge and new solutions, rather than supporting just the failed approaches of the past. The administration of Natural Law will bring satisfaction to every citizen and not just to the majority.
