EU Summit in Luxembourg in Danger of Failing

The enlargement of the EU, the main topic of the EU Summit meeting in Luxembourg 12 - 13 Dec., is going to be a failure unless the basic principles of creating a united Europe are based on Natural Law. The Natural Law Parties of the EU countries emphasise that the nations of Europe do not have to give up their sovereignty, the freedom to decide what is good for themselves, for the sake of the European Union. Unity and harmony can not be achieved in a state of dependence. Only strong, integrated, sovereign nations can contribute towards a European Union that has true meaning and is of value to its member states.

The Natural Law Parties offer reliable and scientific programmes to create real and lasting unity in Europe. The implementation of these programmes will support national sovereignty and self-sufficiency at the same time as supporting harmonious relations between nations on matters of common interest. Only on this basis new countries can join the EU without any danger of weakening the integrity and economic stability of the existing EU member states.

EU funds should be used to implement Natural Law based technologies both within each member state as well as in applicant states. The Natural Law Party programmes will enliven the support of Natural Law for each country, strengthen national integrity, support economic stability and growth, reduce crime, and improve health, education and national security.

Dr. Reinhard Borowitz, Secretary General of the Maharishi European Council of Natural Law Parties, commented: "Europe is a beautiful mosaic of cultures, languages, races, and values. If the national consciousness of each country is brought into alliance with Natural Law, then integration will proceed naturally, without struggle, while sovereignty is fully maintained."

Union cannot be accomplished by political means, as is demonstrated by the recent history of the EU. Unity cannot be legislated for, neither can it be legislated against. Only Natural Law- can create a united Europe of sovereign nations, just as Natural Law strengthens every cell and every organ in the body while maintaining the integration of the whole body. If the political leaders of Europe today truly want to create peace, harmony, and unity in Europe, they should recourse to Natural Law, because only a unity that has grown and nurtured in a natural w ay can be true and lasting.

Dr. Borowitz added: "If these Natural Law based programmes are not implemented, the result will be chaos as we are seeing at present. Man's intelligence cannot compute all the factors that Nature's intelligence organises automatically. Before accepting new member states two prerequisites have to be met. One is that the European Union is fully integrated within itself, the other that each new member also enjoys a coherent national consciousness. You can't make a strong, harmonious whole by putting together incoherent elements."
