Natural Law Party Leaders from 60 Countries Urge USA and Britain to Adopt Their Offer for a Peaceful Solution to Iraq Crisis7 February 1998 The Natural Law Party has urged U.S. President Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to adopt a scientifically proven solution to the Persian Gulf crisis. "There is no justification for air-strikes against Iraq. Military action is not necessary, since there is a proven means to resolve the situation immediately, without the use of force," said Dr Reinhard Borowitz, Secretary General of the Maharishi International Council of Natural Law Parties. Letters outlining the Natural Law Party's proposal have been sent to the two governments. "We support the desire to eliminate the threat of weapons of mass destruction from the region," Dr Borowitz said. "But we strongly object to American and British air strikes, because it is not true that all alternatives to war have been exhausted." The Natural Law Party's solution is the deployment of a group of a few thousand experts in the Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying programme of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Such a group would immediately reduce stress and tension in the region by changing the quality of collective consciousness, and create a coherent and harmonious environment surrounding Saddam Hussein. This peaceful solution would please everyone—the United States, Iraq, and the international community'. The Natural Law Party's solution can be implemented straight away and the effect would be seen literally overnight. Extensive scientific research has proven the efficacy of this programme. The cost would be a small fraction of the expense of military action, and with none of its obvious horrors. "Not only is military force unnecessary: previous instances have shown that it is not even effective in achieving its goal," Dr Borowitz said. "In addition, it may set off a chain reaction of attack and counter-attack that could involve neighbouring countries in serious conflict and have disastrous and unforeseen consequences. When there is clear scientific evidence that supports the use of a powerful peace-making technology, we believe that the use of deadly military force would be totally irresponsible," |
