The Natural Law Party Becomes a Global Political Force11th March, 1998 It is only six years since the Natural Law Party came into being. But in that time it has become a global political force. It has now been established in all parts of the world and is already active in over 60 countries - most recently in India, the world's largest democracy. The Natural Law Party continues to break new ground. Having begun first in Europe, North America and Australasia, it is now spreading quickly throughout Latin America; and in Africa, where progress was initially slow, contacts are now being made in several countries to found the party. The party has set itself the target of becoming established in even- country of the world during this year. According to Dr Reinhard Borowitz, the Secretary General of the Maharishi International Council of Natural Law Parties, the party is well on its way to achieving this goal. Meanwhile, the party continues to participate in election? on the local, state, and national level all around the globe. Even though the party has already several million voters and supporters worldwide, the party's policies and activities are appreciated by vastly more people than the number of votes reflects, which also is seen in the fact that other political parties are getting more and more interested in the Natural Law Party's programmes. Natural Law Party helping shape world political trendsThe party has become increasingly active on the international level, for example at the recent OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) meetings in Vienna, Lisbon and Copenhagen, the European Union summits in Dublin, Amsterdam and Luxembourg, the last NATO summit in Madrid, and the Commonwealth summit in Edinburgh. The party has also helped to champion key issues of public concern throughout the world. It has, for example taken a strong stand against the genetic engineering of food, and by pursuing this policy in every country the party has been able to mobilize widespread support from other groups and organizations, as well as from the general public. Global solutions for global problemsThe Natural Law Party is the only party today that offers an effective solution to an issue which is forcing its way to the top of the world agenda - globalisation. Countries can no longer solve their problems just within their own borders; every country is too much affected by international forces and institutions over which it has no jurisdiction. Obvious examples are: environmental pollution, economic and currency crises, genetic manipulation of food and crops, peace among nations, terrorism, organised and cross-border crime, refugee and asylum problems. In addition, many problems that are considered as national - e.g. disease, crime, unemployment - have similar causes in every country, and can therefore also be considered as international problems. Global problems require global solutions. The old politics is too weak to solve them - especially on the international level. In fact nobody really expects solutions to international problems to come from national governments any more. Today's world requires a global political force that is committed not to any particular interest group or superpower or political ideology, but to life itself. This political force needs to be simple, natural, accessible by the people, honest, effective, and at the same time global. The Natural Law Party fulfils all these criteria to be the new political force of the future. Unlike other parties, it is not a mouthpiece for any particular social grouping. Rather it is committed to nature, to life, to man and his development. It functions in an integrating way, like nature herself. All areas of life are enlivened through the complete knowledge of Natural Law, which takes place on all levels of society: in the electoral district or constituency, in the nation, and indeed everywhere on the planet. The acceptance and thus the influence of the party is growing world-wide. Through its pioneering activity in many countries and through its growing international political activity, the Natural Law Party is well on the way to becoming the only genuine political 'global player' on the world stage that can really represent the interests of humanity as a whole. |
