Natural Law Party urges 'Yes' vote for Welsh Assembly

September 15th 1997

Wales should have its own Assembly, says the Natural Law Party, which believes that all decisions that can be taken in Wales should be taken in Wales.

"We encourage the people of Wales to vote for an Assembly in the forthcoming referendum," says Morgan Francis, Natural Law Party spokesman for Wales. "Such an elected Assembly will take back the local decision-making power which has been eroded by the government in Westminster and given to un-elected quangos.

"Similarly, within Wales more power and responsibility should be devolved to local council level. Many problems can be solved more efficiently and cost-effectively if they are tackled at a local level, and no region of Wales should feel that it is being ignored."

The Natural Law Party is in favour of the Assembly because it will be more responsive to the day to day needs and unique culture of the people of Wales than administration from Westminster. But the party believes that unity should be maintained with Westminster, and within the European Union, on matters of common interest.

Integrated consciousness vital for future of Wales

However, administration either from Westminster or from within Wales will not by itself be enough to secure the best possible future for the Welsh people, says the Natural Law Party.

"We see this Assembly as a definite step in the right direction, which is why we are encouraging a 'Yes' vote," said Morgan Francis. "But ultimately the bright, prosperous future of Wales depends on creating integrated collective consciousness and enlivening the full support of Natural Law. The health and happiness of the individual, rather than administrative or economic issues, should be at the centre of politics."

For this, the Natural Law Party proposes a wide range of unique programmes, foremost amongst them the establishment of a professional group of 1000 people practising Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying.

Yogic Flying is a procedure which both develops and expresses maximum coherence of brain functioning, and trains the individual to function from the most basic and integrated level of Natural Law. The harmonious influence generated in collective consciousness by group practice of Yogic Flying is sufficient to reduce negative trends of life in society and improve positive trends. Such a coherence-creating group should be located near the Welsh Assembly. In addition, education on how to make use of the full potential of Natural Law should be available to all in Wales.

Welsh Assembly in ideal location

Mr Francis added that for the Welsh Assembly to function effectively, the building in which it is housed should be constructed with due consideration to the laws of Nature. All aspects of placement, construction, and materials used must promote the physical and mental well-being of the members of the Assembly, and the effectiveness of their decision-making. The Natural Law Party has a complete programme for such architecture. Among other details, the entrance should be from the east, and southern entrances should be avoided since they bring only negative effects. The same applies to any existing building that may be used for the Welsh Assembly.
