Stress relief for Kosovo
Natural Law Party leaders encourage EU to set up a group of 10,000 Yogic
Flyers to create permanent peace
Cardiff, 16 June 1998
What is needed to create stable peace in Kosovo is not negotiations,
sanctions or a show of NATO military technology, but a display of the
technology to create coherence in collective consciousness, European
Natural Law Party leaders said today at a press briefing in Cardiff.
"Neither armed intervention nor international agreements have
ever ensured permanent peace," said Dr Reinhard Borowitz, leader
of the Natural Law Party of Germany and chairman of the European Summit
of Natural Law Party leaders which has been held in Cardiff from 13
to 16 June.
While the European Council has been discussing the problems of the
EU, Natural Law Party leaders have been formulating a 10-point action
plan to create a problem-free Europe by the year 2000 (announced yesterday).
To create permanent peace throughout Europe, the Natural Law Parties
are calling on EU leaders to establish a permanent group of 10,000 people
practising Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying. "Over
40 sociological studies have shown that establishing such a group in
Europe would produce a dramatic reduction in crime, conflict, and violence
by resolving stress in collective consciousness and creating a coherent,
integrated society," Dr Borowitz said. He quoted the UNESCO charter:
"Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men
that peace must be constructed."
Stress fighting stress
"Regional conflicts such as those in Northern Ireland and Kosovo
arise when collective consciousness is weak, turbulent, and disorderly,"
added Thomas Mullins, Chairman of the Natural Law Party of Northern
Ireland. "What happens is that the individual preferences of different
communities appear incompatible and the people cannot live in peace
with each other."
Mr Mullins said: "The source of conflicts and problems both in
Northern Ireland and the Balkans lies deeper than race, religion, politics
or paramilitary groups. The problem in Kosovo should be viewed not as
Serbs fighting Albanians but rather as stress fighting stress.
"Violation of Natural Law creates a build-up of stress in individual
and collective consciousness," he said. "This is the basic
cause of the fear, intolerance and violence that has dominated life
in the region. Only relief from stress in society can resolve the problem."
Dr Geoffrey Clements, leader of the Natural Law Party of the United
Kingdom, added: "The current show of power by the EU nations is
the show of the ability to kill and die. It is a crime against life
and will just lead to more stress. In contrast, the Natural Law Party's
programme will bring peace to the region, not through fear of military
or economic reprisal, but through the ability to nourish and be a friend
to all."
