MAHARISHI OPEN UNIVERSITYWorld-wide university using satellite TV, is starting courses this week at 30 study centres throughout BritainMentmore, 2 December 1998 Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programme to bring perfection and enlightenment to the world takes a major step forward this week with the start of the first courses of Maharishi Open University. On 3 December Maharishi Open University starts broadcasting the Certificate Course of Total Knowledge, a six-month programme taken two evenings a week. The course, which is broadcast from Holland, will reach almost every country in the world, via a network of eight satellites. (See attached advertisement from The Times, 25 November) This ambitious project was inaugurated by Maharishi only four months ago. Since then, over 10,000 people from 120 countries have put their name down for the courses, including 800 in Britain. Maharishi Open University has set itself the goal of eliminating the weaknesses and inadequacies of today's education, which it regards as the source of chaos and all problems in the life of the individual and society. It is inviting other educational institutions to incorporate its holistic, Consciousness-Based educational approach. UK national director Bernard Bence explains: "Maharishi Open University offers Total Knowledge for total development of the brain. Total Knowledge means: knowledge of Natural Law, the total administering intelligence of the universe. By providing direct experience and intellectual understanding of this field of knowledge, the course enables the student to manage his or her own life successfully, with the ability to know anything, and do everything spontaneously right. " "This contrasts with courses offered by existing universities, which are oriented principally to gaining mastery of a profession, but not mastery of the skill needed to live a mistake-free life, free from problems and suffering. The segmented knowledge offered in modern education, by focusing on just one or a few disciplines, develops only a part of the brain. In doing so it actually hampers the development of the total brain: neuroscientists have established that if a part of the brain is not used it ends up by becoming unusable. " "The result of developing the brain to the full and unfolding its cosmic potential will be to create perfection in individual and national life - Heaven on Earth." Participants in the courses, who include working adults, retired people, and students, will watch the lessons either at home, with their own dish and receiver, or at one of 30 study centres throughout Britain. For those unable to register before 3 December, another six-month course will start on 2 January. Press enquiries: Nigel Kahn 01296-661726 or 0370-992986.
