The leader of the Natural Law Party, Dr Geoffrey Clements, has today written to the Prime Minister strongly urging him to adopt a proven strategy to create peace in Yugoslavia using the technologies of Natural Law. This proposal shows there is an alternative to military action to resolve the conflict.

Dr Clements is the special guest speaker today at a press conference in Glasgow, where he is presenting the open letter and outlining the strategy contained in it. He is also giving his support to the Natural Law Party of Scotland who are presenting the party's proven policies and programmes to create an ideal, problem-free Scotland in the new millennium.

Dear Prime Minister, I enclose a document signed by the leaders of the Natural Law Parties of eight EU countries, including myself, addressed to the leaders of NATO countries and to NATO itself. The document calls on NATO to adopt a proven strategy to create peace in Yugoslavia using the technologies of Natural Law - proven, because there is extensive scientific research supporting the efficacy of this approach. I would like to remind you that we have proposed this strategy to you previously. On two occasions in the past eighteen months when you were considering military action against Iraq, we have written to you and your cabinet colleagues bringing your attention to the fact that there is available an effective technology to create peace that does not bring with it the horrific results of military intervention. I very much hope that on this occasion, when there is no end in sight to the Kosovo crisis, and when no other strategies are emerging to bring peace to the Balkans, you will read our proposal closely and take action to implement it. It goes without saying that my colleagues and I are ready to discuss the practical details of this proposal at your convenience. We are releasing this document to the press today as an open letter.

Urgent call to use technology of Natural Law to resolve the conflict in Yugoslavia and create perpetual world peace

Introduction

The horrors of war being witnessed in Yugoslavia have created fear in the hearts of everyone everywhere. The crisis is a great challenge for world leaders. With each fresh attempt to bring the conflict to an end, the situation has worsened and the war now threatens to engulf an even wider region.

We, the leaders of the Natural Law Parties of the European Union countries, representing at least two million EU citizens, appeal to all heads of government and heads of the armed forces in all NATO and EU nations to use a new, thoroughly researched approach to create perpetual peace.

In this document we give a brief outline of the approach we suggest and request you to send your trusted representatives to meet us and study the proposal in depth.

Even if you do not fully understand our proposal, we assure you on the basis of over 20 years research that it really does work. In the present grave situation there is nothing to be lost by trying it out. The expense is minimal compared to current military expenditure, but the potential reward is enormous - an end to the tragic misery of millions in the Balkans, and a new international environment to build an enduring peace in Europe and the world.

What is happening in Yugoslavia can happen to any nation at any time

We realise that it is the failure of the UN to achieve peace in Yugoslavia that has prompted NATO to attempt to control the situation with violence. However, this unfortunate development represents a terrible danger for the world. NATO's bombardment sets an example to every nation in the world - if you don't like another country, and they won't obey you, then bomb them and destroy them.

NATO is in effect legitimising the principle of foreign policy through violent attack, opening up the possibility of such conflicts arising anywhere in the world at any time. We urgently appeal to NATO and EU leaders to reconsider this perilous approach and try a new strategy that calms down violence rather than fanning the flames of hatred and conflict.

Persuasion does not create peace - the UN has proved that. But likewise, violence does not create peace, as NATO has shown. In fact the whole human history demonstrates that neither of these approaches works.

The choice is clear: to accept war throughout the world as inevitable, or to do something new that really has been demonstrated to create indomitable world peace.

Peace can be created only by taking recourse to Natural Law

The way to create peace is to take recourse to Natural Law. It is possible now to create a powerful influence of coherence and positivity inside or outside any country with a group of experts in the technologies of Natural Law (such as Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying). Such a group of experts will neutralise the clouds of stress in society that give rise to war and will create an atmosphere in which a stable solution will naturally emerge.

The effectiveness of this approach has been demonstrated throughout human history and by 42 published scientific studies in the past 20 years in different parts of the world. The research has clearly established that a group of 10,000 experts practising the technologies of Natural Law together in one place can create a dramatic transformation of world affairs in the direction of peace. It will create such an integrated and harmonious world consciousness that violent thoughts will simply not arise.

This is a new technology of peace - a new weapon of Natural Law that is nourishing and peace creating. Its deployment can erase the memory of Hiroshima and the use of weapons of mass destruction that we have witnessed this century, as well as the tragic consequences of the current NATO action.

The choice now for our generation is whether to go for destruction, or to rise above destructive power and go for the nourishment of all life on earth through the technologies of Natural Law.

There is an old adage: "As you sow, so shall you reap." Even from this point of view, NATO leaders would be well advised to take a more constructive approach, lest the destroyer become the destroyed.

Offer to train 10,000 NATO personnel in technology to create peace

The peace-creating force of 10,000 experts in Natural Law could be selected and trained from any section of the community. But as an immediate measure we would suggest the training of 10,000 of the NATO military now stationed in the Balkans. We are fully prepared to provide all the support we can in the training of this group.

With the demonstration of the power of the technologies of Natural Law to bring peace to the Balkans, we feel confident that world leaders will want to maintain a permanent force of experts in creating world peace. These experts will create peace not by talking or by bombing but by radiating peace from the level of infinite peace in the unbounded ocean of consciousness within every human being.
