Inauguration of "E-Horizons" -

First of ten new computer schools for Greater London, providing training in basic and advanced computer skills, and incorporating Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's principles of education to unfold the full creative intelligence of the students

11.00-11.45am, Tuesday, 2 May 2000
E-Horizons, Green Court House, 183 Clarence Street, Kingston-upon-Thames

SPEAKERS:
Raman Talwar, Vice President, International Operations, Cosmic Software, India
Dr Geoffrey Clements, leader of the Natural Law Party and candidate for mayor of London

Guest of honour, Dr Clements, will cut the ribbon and guests will be given a tour of the facility. Refreshments will be served.

THIS NEW COMPUTER SCHOOL is being set up by Cosmic Software (India) and three British entrepreneurs: Pac and Co, Dixit Shah, and Softex. Cosmic Software is a highly successful and dynamic computer business set up in India eight years ago, under the inspiration of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, in order to improve computer education in India. After setting up 45 IT and computer schools around India, Cosmic Software branched out into software development projects and software consultancy, and now has a turnover in excess of £30m a year.

Building on successes to date, Cosmic Software and partners now plan to set up schools throughout the UK and Europe, including ten schools in the Greater London area. The first school, located in Kingston, has six full-time staff, 26 computers, two classrooms, and an Internet café. The staff include experienced software programmers and marketing specialists.

Courses available include an introduction to computers, advanced computer usage, E-mail and the Internet, as well as the use of Microsoft programmes, such as Word, Power Point and Office 2000. Courses will last from 6 to 24 hours, in two-hour sessions per day. Fees range from £30 to £150, depending on the course. The school has a capacity for up to 300 students.

Both through direct mail and through approaches to colleges, employment agencies, and other institutions, E-Horizons hopes to attract a wide range of course participants, including students, people interested in starting new careers, housewives, schoolchildren, and senior citizens. At the same time, school staff will be contacting companies, banks, hospitals and other institutions to offer corporate training, either on site or at the school.

Vice President of Cosmic Software, Raman Talwar, says: "We will be introducing computer education that uses the latest interactive CDs, projectors and other innovations. Students will also have the option of using Maharishi's consciousness-based principles of education to help them develop their creative intelligence and learn more quickly.

"While Britain is on a par with other leading nations in terms of the availability of computer technology, it is seriously lagging behind in terms of trained personnel to take maximum advantage of the technology. Our new computer schools will aim to close this gap very quickly."

Mayoral candidate and guest of honour at the inauguration, Dr Geoffrey Clements, adds: "The Natural Law Party believes that improving the quality of education is the key to a prosperous, healthy and happy future. In common with the Maharishi School already established in Lancashire, which consistently scores among the top schools in the country in terms of exam results, we can expect the E-Horizons computer schools to excel both in the quality of education they offer and the achievements of their students.

"It is clear that there is a real crisis of employment in London and the South East, with large numbers of unemployed people who lack the skills to take up the thousands of vacant jobs available. E-Horizons is a practical initiative to resolve this situation. While the old parties continue with their failed promises, the Natural Law Party supports concrete action and the use of proven programmes to solve the problems of society."
