Natural Law Party calls for Britain to leave NATO and join new Global Alliance for World PeaceLondon, 29 May 2000: The Natural Law Party today called for an end to Britain's destructive role in the world through its membership of NATO and its massive arms exports. Instead the party is proposing that Britain should join a new Global Alliance for World Peace that will use Natural Law programmes to create a stable state of world peace and make every nation self-sufficient and invincible. "We want to alert the Government and the people of this nation that it is just not possible to create a new world order through destruction," said Dr Geoffrey Clements, leader of the Natural Law Party. "The readiness of NATO to drop bombs on Yugoslavia last year is an approach that merely fuels the level of tension and conflict in the world." The time has come for NATO to be dissolved, because its very existence heightens fear and aggression in the world, Dr Clements declared. "Furthermore, history shows that military alliances can never ultimately guarantee national security for any country. We are fully in favour of Britain having a sovereign, alert and effective national defence force, but this is the time to abandon the promotion of destruction in the world as a means to create peace. "Instead we should start using the new knowledge that is available today - the new technologies of consciousness that are proven to create and maintain peace. Every nation should rise to a state of royal freedom, stability, and true sovereignty through the influence of the enlivenment of the unified field of Natural Law, the field of peace at the basis of all life," he said. Britain's destructive influence in the worldDr Clements pointed out that under the old political parties Britain has become one of the largest arms exporters in the world and a major promoter of military action in the world's trouble spots. "The influence of violence and fear that Britain creates overseas has automatic repercussions here. 'As you sow, so shall you reap' is an enduring truth of life. The ever-escalating levels of crime and violence that we experience at home are the result of the destructive influence that we create elsewhere," he said. Dr Clements pointed out that the lack of proper knowledge in government policy has been highlighted in recent weeks by the competition between Conservative and Labour leaders to promote a fear-based approach to tackling crime. "There is no evidence that this approach has ever worked. Because of the commitment of successive governments to promote arms sales and become involved in military action, the nation's leaders are unable to create constructive policies to tackle crime effectively. "We can no longer stand back and quietly watch what is happening. We must voice the urgent need for our leaders to adopt a more enlightened approach to international and domestic affairs before the fabric of national life is destroyed." 10,000 peace-creating expertsThe Natural Law Party is calling not simply for Britain to leave NATO and ban all arms exports, but to immediately implement an effective strategy to create peace and integration in the world, and reduce crime and negativity at home. Dr Clements said: "There is only one method that has been shown repeatedly by scientific research to resolve negativity and conflict and create peace, harmony and integration." He pointed to the more than 40 published studies showing that a group of 10,000 experts practising Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying would create an indomitable influence of coherence and harmony throughout world consciousness. "This is 'field effect' on the level of human consciousness that can easily create a phase transition to a peaceful, problem-free world," he said. (See fact sheet for details of experimental verification from many locations, including the Lebanon; Washington, DC, USA; and Merseyside, UK, where there was a 60% reduction in crime relative to national trends.) "If the government would set up such a group of coherence-creating experts in this country, we could reverse our country's regrettable record of supporting armed conflict," Dr Clements concluded. "At home, crime and negativity would fall, while abroad we would promote peace, progress, and true independence for every country. In so doing, Britain will automatically qualify to become a member of the new Global Alliance for World Peace that is being established under Maharishi's inspiration."
