Expansion and coalition buildingIn the past year the Natural Law Party, which is now active in 90 countries, has been reaching out successfully to form new alliances and reach a much wider public. Party leaders will report to the Convention on their achievements and discuss plans for further expansion. US Presidential candidate, Dr John Hagelin, will report on the remarkable progress of the US Natural Law Party in creating a serious Third Party challenge in this November's presidential and congressional elections. Dr Hagelin is currently challenging for the leadership of the Reform party to create a new and powerful coalition. UK party leader, Dr Geoffrey Clements, will present achievements in introducing the principles of Natural Law-based administration to politicians and other leaders, particularly during the recent campaign for Mayor of London. Lead candidate for the party in Germany, Dr Reinhard Borowitz, will announce a new expansion programme for the party to cross the 5% threshold to enter parliament. A call for wisdom in world agricultureThe Natural Law Parties have taken a leading role in recent years in alerting the people and governments of their countries to the grave dangers of genetically engineered foods for human health and the environment. At the same time, the parties have been developing effective strategies to fulfil the world's food requirements through safe and sustainable agriculture in harmony with Natural Law. The scientific evidence of the potential harm from releasing organisms that contain recombinant DNA (GM foods) is now so overwhelming that the party leaders at this Convention will launch a new initiative to press for a total global ban of GM foods and a switch to natural, sustainable systems of agriculture that will produce abundant healthy food for everyone. The Convention session on Friday afternoon (14 July) will be devoted to this topic. Key speakers include US public interest attorney Steven Druker who is co-ordinating a landmark lawsuit against the US government's Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Having required the FDA to release over 40,000 pages of internal documents, Mr Druker says that the FDA approved GM crops on the basis of a massive cover up of scientists' warnings. He says that all GM produce is actually on the market illegally and should be withdrawn immediately. He has recently visited 30 European cities to challenge governments over their careless attitude to GM crops and has received strong support from political parties and environmental organisations. Global Alliance for World PeaceAnother issue that the Natural Law Parties have taken up vigorously in recent months is to call for the dissolution of NATO and other military alliances, which serve only to heighten fear and aggression in the world and to promote conflict and destruction. Instead the parties are calling for a constructive approach to resolve conflict and maintain peace through the use of proven technologies of consciousness. They are inviting all countries to join a new Global Alliance for World Peace that will enable every nation to rise to a state of royal freedom, stability and true sovereignty through the influence of the enlivenment of the unified field of Natural Law, the field of peace at the basis of all life. "The Natural Law Party is establishing itself as a global political force that represents the highest interests of all humanity. Increasingly the problems of each individual nation are global problems. Global problems require global solutions. The Natural Law Party is capable of offering effective and proven solutions to the problems of the world. This Convention promises to be another milestone in our endeavour to create an affluent, healthy and peaceful world." - Dr Reinhard Borowitz, Convention Chairman, Secretary General of the Maharishi International Council of Natural Law Parties PRESS CONTACTS: Deirdre Warburton +44 (0) 7710 417895, or Dr Klaus Volkamer +49 (0) 171 8758338.
