Natural Law Party leaders from the European Union member states are arriving in Nice (7 December 2000) for their own summit to run in parallel with the EU Heads of Government summit. The NLP leaders will be tackling the same issues as EU government leaders - EU enlargement, food safety, reform of EU institutions, crime, defence, etc.. The NLP leaders will present their proposals for unique and effective Natural Law based solutions to the problems of the EU both to the delegates to the EU summit and to the media. What kind of Europe do we want?
Natural Law Party leaders urge European Heads of Government to adopt a completely new approach to protect the interests of European citizens

Members of the press are invited to attend this event at which European Natural Law Party leaders will present new proposals to resolve the deep crises facing Europe.

"Mad-cow" disease; GMOs*; a general lack of food safety; worsening of h ealth and the emergence of new diseases; European directives that prove to be dangerous both for the individual and the environment**; an increase in all categories of crime; etc. - these critical problems affecting everyone's life clearly show that the European Union is not serving adequately the interests of its citizens. The French proposal to reform European institutions gives no guarantee of improving the situation.

From 7- 9 December, leaders of the Natural Law Parties of the EU countries will hold their own summit in Nice, in parallel with that of the EU Heads of Government, and they will address the main issues affecting all Europeans. The Natural Law Party leaders are deeply concerned with the worsening situation in Europe and the total incapacity of governments to take action to resolve problems. The party leaders will urge the EU Heads of Government assembled in Nice to implement practical and scientifically verified solutions to Europe's problems, in order to guarantee the well-being of every citizen.

"Human laws are designed to regulate different aspects of life, but they always fail in the end because they neither take into account the infinite complexity of life, nor do they allow the mechanisms of Natural Law to do so. Natural Law Party programmes take into account these mechanisms and should be considered seriously by all European leaders if Europe is not to sink deeper into chaos." - Dr Reinhard Borowitz, Secretary General of the Maharishi International Council of Natural Law Parties, who will chair the press conference.

* The Natural Law Party was the first political party to warn about the risks of GMOs as early as 1995 and has always been a pioneer in warning against violations of Natural Law. Events show that the Natural Law Party is repeatedly proved right.

** For example, the decision of the European Court of Justice stating that France must authorise transgenic maize as long as it is already approved by the European Commission.
